Soil Preparation

  • Soil analysis is very improtant.
  • Liming may be carried out 90 days before sowing.
  • During preparation it is important to eliminate competition for resources by removing established plants and/or weeds. Results are best achieved using a prober herbicide.
  • Prepare a seedbed that is level, weed-free, firm and fine.
  • Initial preparation can be done by means of harrowing or ploughing during late-winter of early-spring.
  • Use a dish or harrowing to break up large clots Depending on the results of the soil analysis, apply the necessary soil corrections and fertilizer.
  • Soil must rest after preparation to allow for organic matter degradation.
  • Soil can be lightly tilled/harrowed just before planting.
  • Calibrate your sower/planter according to guidelines obtained from your planter’s Technical Adviser.
